Thinking about quitting or worried you might get the boot amidst this recession? Well, you might — so here’s what to do first, from someone who strategically exited my last corporate job with an extra $30k+ of perks.

For a bit of context, I wasn’t actually fired from my last corporate job; however, I was constantly paranoid I would be — and for good reason. Working on Wall Street in a notoriously high-attrition industry, I witnessed six different traumatic unexpected firings, ranging in ranks from college interns to managing directors making 7-figures (and then suddenly none).

  • I watched the employee who’s firing triggered a nervous breakdown, some office violence, and a very dramatic security escort.
  • I watched the loyal company veterans who never saw it coming clearing out their glass offices.
  • I watched the analyst who sent one wrong email that got him iced out of both our company and the industry that very same day.

Point being, witnessing all of these abrupt and unexpected career disruptions is what led me to take some proactive action before…
