CEOs: Cancel the Morning Meeting!

Why you’ll never talk to me before 11 am.

The topic of morning routines has been a popular one in recent years, but it also seems to come with some level of judgment and controversy. Should you abandon your electronics and social media for the first hour of the day? Head out for a run and a cold shower? Meditate and then begin the to-do list?

I’m not opposed to any of the above — whatever floats your boat. However, there is one thing I absolutely won’t do and I wouldn’t ask it of my employees either.

You will not speak to me until 11 am. No, really. Not a morning meeting, planning session, debriefing call or the like. Unless you’re my fiancé, my mom, or my dogs, we’re not having a morning conversation.

And if you’re an employee, feel free to pass this along to your boss, because I don’t think you should be subjected to these morning meetings either.

This doesn’t mean I don’t do any work before 11 am, but I simply won’t be reserving my precious morning hours for any type of work-related social interaction.

Why is this?

First ask yourself: do you enjoy the morning meeting?
Secondly, was there anything accomplished or discussed at that meeting that couldn’t have been addressed later?
