Good question! Yes, I do have money invested in the stock market, but I ended up buying a home in a notoriously hard-to-get-into area (with very scarce inventory) that's continuously seen outsized price appreciation (like 8x to 40x over a couple decades). In my case, I believe the real estate in this area is probably a safer bet than the stock market, but diversification is of course a good idea. It's also nice to have a fixed monthly payment when rents in this area are going up like crazy, and our mortgage rate is below inflation.
